SUN WU KONG: THE MONKEY KING
A game made in Adobe Animate using ActionScript3. This game is based on the Chinese myth of the monkey king, Sun Wu Kong and his journeys. Game assets created in Piskel and Paint. It is a 2D platformer where the concept is quite simple where the player has to kill demons (enemies) while protecting the monk from damage. There are power ups such as increase speed and freezing the enemies in place to help the player succeed.
This was a university project I did for my first year of my undergraduate studies. The brief was to make a game based on mythology and folklore. First off, I wanted to design a game based on a Chinese myth and I remember being told stories of the Monkey King as a child. Since the Monkey King faced many adventures, trials and fought many opponents in the stories, I decided to make my game where the player fight against enemies. To make it even more challenging and interesting, I decided to add in the element of having to protect someone or something, like in the story where he has to protect the holy monk during part of his journey.
